I was born and raised in Germany. As an adolescent, I noticed more and more, especially verbal, acts of violence against my parents. In addition to the urge to protect them, I have been asking myself other questions ever since: Why don't they fight back? Can't they because of the language barrier, or don't they want to? How do I myself perceive the identities of other immigrants? Since migration is a very current topic in society, I see an opportunity for us second-generation postmigrants to be a mouthpiece for our parents' generation to tell their stories.
